Sam stopped by the Nintendo Store after meeting me for lunch. And whee, let the fun begin!
While we were in Guadalajara, we took a trip to the Jose Cuervo Distillery in Tequila. It was a very interesting tour, learning about the tequila making process, and the seeing the fields of agave plants going out there was beautiful. The best part of the tour was the tasting at the end, where we got to learn the proper way to taste tequila (apparently, the proper way is not to lick some salt off your wrist, take the shot, and suck on a lime - who would have known?). It was amazing how different the length of aging makes in the taste of the tequila. Definitely a worthwhile excursion if you're in the area.
Typical. I spend a relaxing week, with wi-fi and a computer and plenty of time to take advantage of it, and it takes me all week to edit a few measly pictures. The bed and breakfast was great, a beautifully restored villa filled with an amazing garden and beautiful Mexican folk art. We spent a lot of time relaxing around the inn, reading and napping, and enjoying the delicious food. Overall a great vacation.
Suburban communities outside Dallas
Meandering river and oxbows in the Midwest
We ended up missing our original flight due to unforseen circumstances (mainly me not realizing that even though we are returning to JFK, we were leaving from LGA). But we squeezed on to the next flight and are now stranded in Dallas. Oh well. We weren't going to get into town until late tonight anway, so we'll only miss tomorrow morning of our vacation.
Last night I went to Carnegie Hall for the first time. My parents have tickets for a series of concerts and the couple they usually go with couldn't make it, so Sam and I filled their shoes. My impressions:
- Box seats are scary. Especially when you get in and out of them.
- There is very little leg room in box seats. There is also very little room to angle your chair so that you can look at orchestra head on instead of the people on the other side of the hall.
- The space is beautiful and huge. Huge!
- Sitting in a box seat made me feel like I should be in a fancy gown and spying on the people across the hall with opera glasses a la The Age of Innocence. But the guy wearing jeans in the box next to me made me feel better about it.
- Hillary Hahn wore an awesome dress.
- I made it through the first half without falling asleep. It may be a record for me.
P.S. I'm heading down to Mexico next week. Sadly, this probably won't even disrupt my less than stellar posting lately. But hopefully I'll have photos when I get back. If I remember to charge my camera that is.
St. Marks Ave between Vanderbilt and Underhill
Sam is working this weekend, while his office is moving to a new location in downtown Fort Greene. I killed part of the day yesterday walking around Park Slope and catching up on some TV from last week. And then I settled down to play some Final Fantasy, and while trying to get the controller free, I pulled on the cord a bit too hard and pulled the Play Station off the shelf. Ouch. And then, I broke the universal remote. I forgot how much of a curse on electronics I am. Thankfully, I married the right person to cure my curse.
P.S. The inside of the Play Station looks pretty neat.
