Mmmm

P1000203.JPG

Saturday, after playing around with my new computer for the majority of the day, we ventured out into the rain to BAM to check out Pan's Labyrinth (very very good), and then ventured to The Smoke Joint, which was a great as we remembered.

Then on Sunday, we christened our renewed living/dining room by having my parents and brother over for brunch. I made Asparagus Quiche and Scones, heard (and saw most of the pictures) from my brother's recent trip to Southeast Asia, and my mom taught me how to use my sewing machine. Very exciting Sunday in my opinion. Can't wait to get cracking on some more sewing fun.

Last week, my dad sent me a link for a clip from America's Test Kitchen, and after I finally watched it, I couldn't wait to try out the roast chicken recipe. I picked up a whole chicken on Sunday, but we were having so much fun with my parents that I didn't get around to brining the chicken until it was too late because we were hungry. So since I had to work today, Sam became an expert at butterflying a chicken. And let me tell you, boy did he do a great job. Among the tastiest roast chicken I've ever had (not really comparable to Peruvian Chicken since its a totally different taste)! It looked and smelled so good when it came out of the oven that we dug in before I could take a picture of the end product.

Dahlia,
So glad to hear you have a machine and you're sewing. I've been talking (for a few years now) about getting my old sewing machine going and teaching Alison to sew.

If I don't get to that, at least we're knitting. Over my week off between Christmas and New Years, I finished a beautiful scarf for Jaime (made of a wool/silk blend) and am now putting the finishing touches on a merino weool scarf with cables for Alison. How are your knitting skills? I'm available for basic knitting instruction.

A couple of friends of mine are teaching me how to sew handbags. So far I've had a blast picking out fabric and patterns, but only managed to finish the strap and haven't had time to go back to it yet. We're all too damn busy all the time. Some day though!

Mmmm, that catfish burger in the first photo was soooo good. Juicy, with a crunchy exterior, but not overly "fried" tasting. You could really taste the fish.
