I feel like I cheated. I had just realized last week that the bounday for the contentious 11th congressional district was in fact Dean St, and that since we live over by Atlantic right now, we are actually in the 10th congressional district. However, I was confused because when I searched my address on the polling station locater from the Board of Elections, it came up with a different location than the one listed on mailing I received at home (at that same address). I decided that it would be better to go to the location listed on my mailing, in Prospect Heights, since that is obviously where the Board of Elections thinks I should be. Sure enough, despite me calling the DMV a few months back to register my change of address, that was not actually processed and the Board of Elections had my old Dean St address listed in their books. (And Sam is still listed at his Park Slope address! Luckily he has to be in PS tonight anyway).
So what was I to do? Vote in the wrong district or not vote at all. I voted. Which is probably good since I've been following the 11th district's race more than the 10th anyway. And then I filled out a change of address form. I wonder if it will get filed before November elections?
The part that mystifies me the most about all this is that both Sam and I got our primary reminder notices from the Board of Elections, with our polling locations, sent to our current address! By doing this, they are basically saying its ok to live in one district but be registered in a different one, which seems totally wrong to me. If they know we live in Clinton Hill, shouldn't they also automatically change us to vote there?
