Friday night, I headed to Astoria to cheer Sam and his pool team on in the regional champs, where they were playing for a trip to Vegas to play in the national championships. The pool was great, and they won their match on Friday, but since we didn't get back until 2am, I decided to be a bad wife and not watch them on Saturday too. Which I'm glad I didn't do because they had to wait around for hours to even play their next match, and then they lost. Meanwhile, I got to sit on my couch, and get this, watch TV! I haven't vegged out like that in months! I took a break to go for a spin on my sweet new-to-me (i.e. top notch hand me down from my dad) road bike in the park, and I filed away in our office so that you can see the couch, but sitting on the couch rocked. When Sam finally got home, after close to 10 hours at the pool hall, we went to see A Prarie Home Companion, which I loved.
Then on Sunday, Sam switched places with me, napping on and off for a few hours while I went out to Brighton Beach to swim. The water was still freezing, with temps hovering around 60, but it only took me 5 minutes instead of half an hour to get in the water, and I swam much farther, so I think I'll be fine for MIMS. The water was very choppy due to the strong winds, though, making it pretty hard to swim, and I didn't realize how different the muscles it works are until I got up this morning. As reward for my hard work, we headed into Manhattan to hit up the BBQ festival. The lines were ridiculously long, but Sam and I split up so that he got some pulled pork for us while I waited on the very long baby back ribs line. A good strategy that also helped prevent overeating.
