Well, for just one more useless data point to confuse things even more, my wife kept her name, and it wasn't really an issue for me.

She's a feminist, which was a big reason. Also, she's Latina and I'm Asian, so the changed name would have been a little disconcerting. Plus she's self-admittedly lazy. :)

We have no idea what we'll do when and if we have kids, though.

And on an amusing related story, she had a good friend who had a last name of Smith who, all her life, was looking forward to getting married so she could finally change her name to something less boring -- but then she married another Smith.
